Couple Counseling
As a trained Marriage and Family Therapist, I am equipped to hold space for couples that are navigating challenges in their relationship.
Couple counseling can offer numerous benefits for relationships struggling with communication, conflict, emotional distance, infidelity, navigating the challenges of transitions or new life stages. It provides a safe and neutral space for partners to express their feelings, understand each other's perspectives, and develop healthier ways of interacting. Through couples counseling, couples can learn to improve their communication skills, resolve conflicts more effectively, and strengthen their emotional bond.
I was trained at The Family Institute at Northwestern University primarily under an integrative model where the role of the counselor is to treat the relationship, utilizing a variety of approaches depending on the needs that the couple presents.
A thorough assessment is key in this process. Initially, trust needs to be built with the counselor. I will be gathering information about each partners personal background, family of origin, significant life events. It's also essential for me to understand the relationship dynamics which includes how the couple interacts, communicates, resolves conflict, which dynamics are identified as areas of growth and which are identified as healthy. Additionally, it's important to understand the relationship goals, the hopes the each partner has for their relationship, shared goals and the goals for counseling. and themselves. Lastly, it will be important to pinpoint the specific concerns that bring the couple to counseling. This is just a short overview of the initial work we can accomplish together.
